What is Google account linking and what are the benefits?
By linking your game to a Google account, you’ll be able to access your save game across multiple Android devices, as well as access your save on Google Play Games for PC.
How do I link my Google account?
Depending on your Google account settings, you will either be automatically logged in when you first open the app or you’ll be asked to select your preferred account to link. If you decline this, you can link your game in the setting menu within the game via the “Account Info” page.
How do I unlink my Google account?
- Open the game
- Tap your profile image in the top left corner
- Tap “Account Info”
- Tap “Unlink” for the Google account option (the account with the green controller icon). Please note that unless you disable the app’s auto sign in with Google, you will be re-linked the next time you open the app while using this Google account. See the next question below for instructions on how to prevent this.
How can I stop my Google account from linking each time I open the game?
- Fully exit out of Hogwarts Mystery
- Open the "Play Games" app (not Google Play/Play Store)
- Tap the 3 dots in the top right
- Tap “Settings”
- Scroll down to the "You data" section and tap "Change account for games"
- Scroll down to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and tap "Change"
- Tap "Sign out"
- Return to Hogwarts Mystery and your account will no longer be linked to Google. Note that you'll still get a "Google Play Games Login Failed" message on start up, simply tap the X button to close out of the message. At this time there is no way to prevent this popup from showing if you choose to unlink your account.
I’m getting a “Google Play Games Login Failed” error whenever I load my save.

I’m getting a "Google Play Games Autolink Failed - Profile Already Linked" error.
This error will appear if you’ve linked your Google account to a save game and then try to play on another save while using the same Google account. For example: If you have 2 Android devices that are signed into the same Google account, but each device has its own save game, you will encounter this error. To prevent this, you’ll need to login to a second Google account on your second Android device and link your second save to this account. Note that you may need to update your sign in preferences for Hogwarts Mystery in the Play Games app as well. To do this:
- Open the "Play Games" app (not Google Play/Play Store)
- Tap the 3 dots in the top right
- Tap “Settings”
- Scroll down to the "You data" section and tap "Change account for games"
- Scroll down to Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and tap "Change"
- Tap “Ask each time”. Now when you open Hogwarts Mystery you’ll be asked to pick your Google account. Pick the account that is linked to that save game.
