Please note that when reviewing the Trophy values shown from either an opponent's profile or the "Recent Opponents List", the values displayed are that of the player's HIGHEST Trophy Count reached for the Season. It does not indicate the Trophy value they were currently at when they had Battled you. 

 

The only time you would begin getting matched with players that have a far higher Trophy count than yours is when you reach 5000 Trophies and above (even then this is only if the game cannot locate any opponent close to your Power Score at that given time). Otherwise you should not be matched with opponents that have several hundred Trophies above yours.

 

A reminder that as of the 1.7 update, Matchmaking is determined based on a Power Score which is a value made up of your current Trophy Count, Strike Team Creature Rarities and Levels, and the Stat Boosts applied to them.
